SESSION 1: Notes and thoughts
ZAppos Family core values-I learned that this shoe company has a really good system that can be implemented into districts to improve schools.
Deliver through service-their service it exceptional. Our students are our customers and we need to make sure we are meeting their needs. If only everyone would see this as it is, maybe schools/districts would try better at providing exceptional service to our community so we don’t lose employees or clients (families).
Embrace and drive change-This is innovation.
Create fun and a little weirdness-Just to wake up every morning and yell with excitement “I LOVE MY JOB!”-no coffee needed.
Be adventurous, creative, and open minded-If all teachers would follow this as listed, it would make a world of difference-Schools would be EXCITING!
TedTalks-everyone needs a champion
After listening to this speaker, I felt that teacher recharge feeling. I was reminded of my eagerness when I began thinking about teaching. I considered going into teaching after my professor Dr. Grobner told me that the public schools were in need of science teachers. He knew I was passionate about science and had not really decided what path to take with my degree. He told me that I would be great because I could inspire more to go into the career fields of science. Females and minorities were very few in the STEM careers. I believed then that I could become somebody’s champion. The TEDtalks speaker reminded me of what is So true, everyone needs a champion.
Why do we do this?---Stereotyping unsuccessful students:
Ditch diggers
Cannot save them all
Kids are rocks
Bad girls, mean girls-
Other ideas I learned about are listed:
Perceptual
PLC-idea coming together as a whole. What do we do with those students who are not engaged, and don’t do anything?
Notion of everyone has the potential to be a success, things we can do to help kids!
“The Big picture” we can bring to class. As a teacher leader bring to the school.
Youtube video: changing the education paradigm
DIVERGENT thinking is not a synonym to creativity but an essential capacity for creativity-collaboration is the stuff of growth
Traditional paradigm labels students that are vocational/kinesthetic to compare themselves with intellectual and see themselves as less and unsmart.
